CEDENNA organizes numerous outreach activities, including conferences, talks, competitions, schools, seminars and exhibitions, to present its work to the general community, generating greater interest in science among the youth of our country.
Déborah de Masi, a French student from the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR) is doing an internship at the Molecular Magnetism and Inorganic Materials Laboratory of the University of Santiago, led by Dr. Diego Venegas (Nanostructure Chemistry line).
Her work is focused on the uniform synthesis of magnetite particles in a range of 6 nm, covering some in a layer of just titanium oxide, and others with a layer of silicon oxide covered with a second layer of titanium oxide. The young student is studying whether in the latter case the two layers make the nanoparticles within an organism more stable and whether this modifies their photocatalytic properties.
According Dr. Diego Venegas, Déborah’s analysis represents a contribution to research into eliminating pesticides from irrigation water.
