With the aim of promoting dialogue between scientists and the public, a new cycle of the Scientific Café 2013 will begin on Wednesday, April 24th, organized by researchers of the Millennium Nucleus on Magnetism of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
Winners of national sciences awards, biologists, physicists, chemists and seismologists were featured in the first season of the SCIENTIFIC CAFE brining together more than 500 people to discuss diverse themes related to science, technology and innovation. In this second season new researchers want to continue contributing with their critical reflections on these themes.
Dr. Patricio Vargas, Director of the International Institute for Entrepreneurial Innovation (3IE) from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María will be the first guest speaker in the second season of the SCIENTIFIC CAFÉ, an outreach initiative of the Millennium Nucleus on Basic and Applied Magnetism of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), in which researchers from five other universities participate.
Each program features a scientist and a guest panelist from the area of science outreach or social communication. In the first Cafe of the second season, to take place on Wednesday, April 24th at 6:30, Dr. Vargas will be accompanied by Cristóbal Undurraga, this year’s General Coordinator of Innovation for the Government of Chile.
In the first encounter the discussion will center on innovation and university-business alliances with the aim of linking the knowledge developed by universities to the needs and challenges for industrial innovation in Chile and worldwide.
The SCIENTIFIC CAFE will be hosted by Dr. Eugenio Vogel, professor from the Universidad de la Frontera and a participating scientist I the Millennium Science Nucleus.
The event will be broadcasted on Tuesday, April 30 by Radio USACH, the radio station of the Universidad de Santiago at 9:00 pm at 94.5 FM and by the network of Chilean university radio stations according to their programming.
The SCIENTIFIC CAFÉ has funding support from the Millennium Scientific Initiative Program of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism and is supported by the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), Radio USACH and the network of Chilean university radio stations.
