Thesis studies the use of nanoparticles to eliminate cancer cells

May 24, 2018

Aline Alfaro, the new graduate of Biochemistry from the University of Santiago, obtained the highest score with her thesis “Characterization of Magnesium Oxide nanoparticles loaded with 2-methoxy-estradiol and its effect on viability in prostate tumor cells.” at the Reproduction Immunology Laboratory of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, guided by Dr. Pedro Orihuela (Cedenna Nanobiomedicine research group) and Master Patricia Reuquen, her results contribute to the multidisciplinary study against cancer desease, demonstrating that these nanoparticles are highly effective to inducing cell death in prostate cancer cells, which can have a great impact on new anti-cancer therapeutic strategies.
