By unanimous vote, the board of the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, elected Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa as the institution’s new executive director, replacing Dr. Dora Altbir Drullinsky, who led the Center since its creation and positioned it as the country’s leading reference in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Dr. Escrig is currently dean of the Faculty of Science at Universidad de Santiago, where he obtained his PhD in Science with a major in Physics. He has also been a member of the Global Young Academy, a young researcher of the Chilean Academy of Sciences, treasurer of the Chilean Physics Society and director of Fondecyt’s Theoretical and Experimental Physics Study Group.

He currently leads the Nanomagnetism Laboratory, which focuses on three lines of research: nanoelectronic devices, antimicrobial nanostructures and lithium batteries. His research has resulted in more than 130 WoS articles, which have received more than 2,900 citations. He has filed 5 patent applications and has trained 8 doctoral students.

“It is an honor and a tremendous challenge to have been chosen as the new executive director of CEDENNA, a center where I have worked as a researcher for more than 10 years,” the new director said of this new challenge in his career.

He adds that “CEDENNA is recognized for its outstanding body of researchers who carry out excellent research that seeks to solve society’s challenges.”
