As part of International Women’s Day, CEDENNA will hold a conversation bringing together prominent representatives from the scientific, political, and science communication fields to reflect on the paths of women who have made an impact in spaces of knowledge and leadership.
Next Wednesday, March 11, at 11:30 AM, the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) will hold the conversation “Women, Science and Decision-Making: Real Experiences in Spaces of Power,” which will take place in the Auditorium of the Research Centers Building at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH).
The event seeks to open a close and reflective space for dialogue on the experiences, challenges, and lessons learned by women who have built careers in historically male-dominated fields, particularly in the scientific world and in public decision-making.
The panel will feature Dr. Helia Molina, Member of the Chamber of Deputies and former Minister of Health; Dr. Mónica Antilén, CEDENNA researcher and academic at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; and Dr. Macarena Rojas Ábalos, president of the Chilean Association of Journalists and Professionals for Science Communication (ACHIPEC).
The event will open with welcoming remarks from Dr. Dora Altbir, director of CEDENNA and recipient of the 2019 National Prize for Exact Sciences.
More than a symbolic commemoration, the event aims to generate a conversation based on the participants’ real experience, addressing topics such as invisible barriers in professional careers, the challenges of gaining influence in spaces of power, and the changes needed to strengthen women’s participation in science, health, politics, and communication.
At the end of the conversation, a closing coffee will be held, allowing the exchange between the panelists and the attending audience to continue.
The event is open to the university community and interested members of the public, with prior registration required due to the auditorium’s limited capacity.
