The students of the Swiss Confederation Lyceum who visited the center to learn about nanoscience and nanotechnology were amazed by the state-of-the-art electron microscopy equipment. This, within the framework of the work they do in the Science workshop coordinated by the teacher Daniela Andaur. The Biology teacher participated in the ProNano held by CEDENNA in October 2022 and since then she has been especially motivated to bring the nano world closer to her students. “These occasions cannot be replicated in high school, they are essential activities that must be done. It is something new and very good for them; In addition, it allows them to get to know and become familiar with these technological innovations that they saw at CEDENNA, in order to develop their skills, critical thinking and another attitude”, he specified. The person in charge of Electron Microscopy, Fabián Araneda, explained to the group –made up of teenagers from the First and Second year of High School- how this type of microscopy works and the preparation of the samples that can be analyzed. In addition, he showed them different images captured by the teams and that reveal the microscopic and nano universe, provoking the astonishment and curiosity of the attendees. “For me it is super important that students come to our facilities to learn a little more about us. It is an instance to nurture their motivation for science and open the range of options before a possible interest in wanting to study something related to science.” added the researcher.
