Dr. Dora Altbir among the “100 Inspiring Women in Chilean Mining 2024”

In a ceremony that sealed Mining Month, Dr. Dora Altbir Drullinsky, Executive Director of the CEDENNA Foundation, was recognized as one of the most outstanding women in the mining industry in the third edition of the book "100 Women who Inspire in the Chilean Mining 2024".

The winners were chosen from a group of 488 nominees and recognized in the categories of Executives, Businesswomen, Academics and Researchers, Students, Professionals and Strength of Women, highlighting the key role that these leaders play in the industry. In addition to receiving their book, the honorees took the stage to receive recognition for their inspiring work.

Dr. Altbir has been instrumental in the expansion of nanotechnology into industrial applications, especially in mining. From the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), he has led efforts that have allowed the development of innovative solutions to optimize mining operations. A notable example is the creation of the real-time monitoring system for the control of the so-called “unchancables” (for example the very hard teeth of mining shovels), elements that, when mixed with the mineral, can damage the machinery and cause stoppages. costly in operations. Using sensors designed at CEDENNA, it is possible to remotely monitor and timely detect the detachment of any of these elements.

This recognition is part of a broader effort led by Women in Mining Chile (WIM Chile), which promotes various initiatives to strengthen the participation of women in mining. Dr. Altbir is part of a group of inspiring women who are redefining the future of Chilean mining, demonstrating that science and innovation are key pillars for the development of more efficient and sustainable mining.
