  • A memorable talk and conversation with this distinguished Usach researcher and academic.

The Auditorium of the Rector Eduardo Morales Santos Research Centers Building (REMS) of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile was the setting for a talk by Dr. José Zagal, recently awarded the 2024 National Prize for Natural Sciences, as part of the Cedenna Seminar Series.

Dr. Zagal, with more than 200 scientific publications and author of four books, is a world leader in the field of electrochemistry and energy conversion. His prestigious career of more than 50 years began in 1973 as a professor at Usach, where he has left an indelible mark on the training of new generations of scientists.

During the session, which brought together students and researchers, Dr. Zagal shared his vast experience and knowledge in electrochemistry. At the end of his presentation, attendees had the opportunity to interact directly with the academic in a question-and-answer session, fostering an enriching dialogue among participants.

This seminar is part of Cedenna’s ongoing commitment to disseminating and promoting scientific knowledge, connecting the university community with leading figures in the field.

At the close of the session, Cedenna director Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa presented Dr. Zagal with a recognition, which included the book “The Amazing Nanoworld”, a work that combines images of nanoparticles captured by the center’s researchers and students through electron microscopy and artistically enhanced to link science and art.

For his part, Dr. Zagal valued the event and highlighted the importance of bringing science closer to the general public through initiatives like this.
