Did you know that, beyond visible smog, there is an even quieter threat in the air we breathe?
Dr. Juliano Casagrande, director of the CEDENNA – USACH Center Program, addresses in his recent column published by Radio Cooperativa one of the most invisible and dangerous faces of pollution: nanoparticles.
These ultrafine particles, produced by combustion and industrial activity, can penetrate deep into the human body, causing severe health effects. But they also open up a key field of action for science.
In his reflection, Dr. Casagrande highlights how nanotechnology —an area in which Chile has advanced scientific capabilities— makes it possible to identify, analyze and mitigate this pollution, providing essential data to design more effective public policies and technologies that truly make a difference.
