CEDENNA Foundation Director and 2019 National Prize for Exact Sciences winner Dr. Dora Altbir has been included among the 118 most influential women in science in the Periodic Table of Women Scientistsof the National Congress Library.

This distinction arises from the commemoration of February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and aims to showcase and recognize outstanding women in 10 areas of science in Chile. The table includes scientists from various fields who have marked milestones in their disciplines, contributing significantly to the national and international scientific community.

The Periodic Table of Women Scientists was created in response to the need to reduce the gender gap in science, highlighting women who, throughout their careers, have played a key role in generating knowledge, science outreach and training new generations.

The selection criteria for this distinction include National and International Prizes, pioneers in scientific fields traditionally dominated by men, and women who have stood out for their contribution to disseminating knowledge. Dr. Altbir’s inclusion in this select group highlights her contribution to the field of exact sciences, as well as her fundamental role in promoting nanoscience and nanotechnology in Chile.
