This week World Quantum Day (April 14) is celebrated, and the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) will take part in two interesting related initiatives.
One of them is organized by the center together with the QuSantiago Team to bring to life the QuSantiago Day Seminar on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 April, where leading researchers from different universities will address topics such as the light revolution, quantum machine learning and quantum batteries. The two-day event will take place at the Auditorium of the Eduardo Morales Santos Research Building of Universidad de Santiago, with talks by Drs. Juan Carlos Retamal (USACH), Carla Hermann (UCh), Guillermo Romero (USACH), Felipe Barra (UCh), Ariel Norambuena (UMayor) and Jerónimo Maze (PUC).
The opening will also feature certified IBM Quantum Ambassador Juan Pablo Soto, technical executive and IBM Inventor dedicated to transforming companies through disruptive technologies. He currently leads the Automation practice in the Customer Success team across the Americas and has been a certified IBM Quantum ambassador since 2018.
In Valdivia
CEDENNA’s director, Dr. Dora Altbir, will take part in the World Quantum Day celebrations organized by the Faculty of Sciences of Universidad Austral de Chile.
On April 11, Dr. Altbir will give the talk «Science and technology, an unbreakable entanglement». On April 12, the scientist will present «Science and the future: Examples from nanotechnology», an activity aimed at schoolchildren from the Los Ríos Region. On this occasion, the young people will be able to experiment in the Physics Laboratories and see in situ the quantum spectrum of different atoms, visualize electron beams and understand the behavior of the nano world using lasers and waves.
In addition, CEDENNA’s director will meet with the academics of the CIMAS – Ciencia 2030 Network, whose mission is aligned with the strategic objectives of the Southern Sub-Antarctic Consortium Ciencia 2030, which also joins this celebration through its Leadership and Gender Node.
World Quantum Day is an initiative of quantum scientists who organize and hold outreach events on the discipline in more than 65 countries every April 14 (4.14 in reference to the first rounded digits of Planck’s constant, which governs quantum physics. (See more at: https://worldquantumday.org).
