In an extraordinary session and by unanimous vote, the Chilean Academy of Sciences appointed CEDENNA researcher Dr. Juan Alejandro Valdivia Hepp as a corresponding member of the scientific body, after a rigorous selection process that evaluates career, prestige, research quality and contribution to training new scientists.
Dr. Valdivia holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Maryland, USA, is a Simulations researcher at CEDENNA and full professor at the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences, Universidad de Chile. His scientific contributions span areas such as complex systems, astrophysics, space weather, nonlinear phenomena and chaos theory, among others.
“It is a great honor to be a member of the Academy. I am very attracted to the idea of participating actively in this body,” the scientist said.
His work and career are recognized nationally and internationally, as reflected in his more than 160 scientific articles published in leading journals, many of which he has served as editor.
He has also been a project reviewer for major international and national organizations such as NASA; the National Science Foundation (USA); the Natural Environment Research Council; the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, Conicyt/Fondecyt (Chile); and the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission (Chile).
