Next April, Dr. Patricia Díaz, researcher at the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), will give a talk with international reach aimed at health professionals from Latin America and Spain, focused on the impact of nanomaterials on the development of medical-surgical supplies, especially in antimicrobial applications and wound healing processes.

The activity arises from the interest generated by her recent presentations to industry, where she has shown advances in nanobiomedicine applied to the development of medical-surgical supplies. In particular, her presentations have addressed the use of materials such as cellulose fibers and silver nanoparticles in advanced patches and bandages, showing how nanotechnology is transforming the design and functionality of these clinical devices.

One of the most recent milestones was her participation in EXPO HERIDAS, an event organized by BBraun Medical SpA that brought together 33 companies from the sector and more than 1,500 health professionals, including physicians, nurses, technologists and advanced training students. Following this event, the researcher was again invited to give a specialized talk to professionals linked to the company.

The presentations have stood out for bringing nanotechnology concepts closer to clinical practice, showing how nanoscale properties (such as increased contact surface and greater interaction with microorganisms) make it possible to optimize the performance of medical supplies and help prevent infections in hospital settings.

These kinds of initiatives are part of CEDENNA’s knowledge transfer strategy, aimed at strengthening the link between scientific research, industry and clinical practice, in a context where technological innovation is becoming increasingly important to improve the quality of health care.
