- Girls and teenagers from different schools in the municipality took part in the activity held at the Municipality of Estación Central.
The talk “Women’s Participation in Science from an Academic and Territorial Perspective” was held in the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Estación Central, attended by the municipality’s mayor, Felipe Muñoz; the executive director of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa; and students and teachers from different schools, including Colegio República de Austria, Colegio República de Francia, Colegio Arturo Alessandri, Colegio Pacto Andino, Escuela Falabella and Escuela Silvia Salas.
The activity began with activities led by “Cuenta Usach”, a Comprehensive Training Program in the Art of Oral Storytelling. Then Natalia Aguayo, a professional from the Female Leadership and Participation Area of the Faculty of Science of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, gave a talk accompanied by fun activities around the question: How do we imagine a person who does science? On this occasion, the students were able to interact with different ideas using their cell phones, which were shared with the whole audience.
“We are very happy with this activity organized by CEDENNA and the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Together with the Municipal team, it allowed us above all to reflect on and debate the role of women in science, which is extremely important for us. It is something that drives and commits us to keep moving forward on these issues,” said Mayor Felipe Muñoz.
Meanwhile, the executive director of CEDENNA and dean of the Usach Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Juan Escrig, explained to the girls and teenagers what nanoscience and nanotechnology are, while highlighting the importance of women in science.
“The idea of this activity was to empower girls from different schools in Estación Central with first-rate science, such as that carried out at CEDENNA,” said Dr. Escrig, who also took the opportunity to open the Center’s doors to students who want to visit it, in order to “show them the impressive world of nanoscience and nanotechnology”.
