The April issue of Crystal Growth & Design features on its cover a study by CEDENNA’s Nanostructure Chemistry group analyzing the magnetostructural properties of two new coordination polymers with zigzag topology, with the participation of researchers Carlos Cruz, Walter Cañón, Verónica Paredes-García and Diego Venegas Yazigi.
The front view of the chains resembles an Andean condor with its wings spread, standing on the keystone of its dimensionality, the asymmetric pyridine-triazole ligand. The work arises from the interaction of the Molecular Magnetism and Molecular Materials research groups (LM4-USACH) and the Laboratory of Molecular Magnetism and Polymetallic Compounds (LM2-CP UNAB).
Dr. Diego Venegas, group principal investigator, explained that the complete description of the electronic structure was carried out experimentally and theoretically, finding weak antiferromagnetic interactions operating within the chains and local magnetic anisotropy, and that it was developed through collaborations
