Innovation and technology transfer are the keys to the sustainable development of CODELCO, which seeks to be more efficient and competitive, said Felipe Lagno, CODELCO’s Innovation Manager, during his tour of CEDENNA’s laboratories together with Daniela Blanco, CODELCO’s Director of Technology Contracts and Alliances.

On this occasion the executive was able to learn directly from the researchers about some of the developments for the mining sector, such as sensors that allow real-time monitoring of the detachment of wear elements from mining shovels (GETs), preventing pieces of metal from hindering crushing operations.

This visit marked another milestone in bringing the two organizations closer together, with a view to permanent collaborative work to contribute solutions to the national mining sector. On this occasion Felipe Lagno highlighted the importance of connecting both institutions: “In this way, the center’s scientific and technological competencies can be complemented with CODELCO’s capacity to do better mining and build a better industry for all of us in Chile.”

Dr. Dora Altbir, director of CEDENNA, said “we are very happy at our center with CODELCO’s visit. We believe this was an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties and seek greater collaboration between research and a state company as relevant as CODELCO. We are convinced that we have the capabilities in our country, from science, to contribute to solving many problems in mining and other areas. And what better than being able to contribute, hand in hand with CODELCO, to solving the country’s technological problems.”
