The free activity will take place on Thursday, October 22, at Aulario 1 of Universidad Diego Portales and includes two sessions, during which participants will visit six interactive stations linked to different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, has opened the call to take part in NanoExplorers 2026, an experience for girls aged 9 to 12 that seeks to bring them closer to science through curiosity, experimentation and discovery. The activity will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Aulario 1 of Universidad Diego Portales, located at Av. Ejército 326, Santiago, and will have two time slots: a morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and an afternoon session from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. NanoExplorers is designed as a hands-on experience. During the session, participants will visit six interactive stations associated with different CEDENNA research and application lines: simulations, magnetic nanostructures and mining, renewable energy, chemistry and the environment, nanobiomedicine, and packaging and food safety. Through experiments, demonstrations and small challenges, the girls will be able to observe phenomena, ask questions, test solutions and learn first-hand how those who carry out research in nanoscience and nanotechnology work. The program will begin with a welcome from CEDENNA director Dr. Dora Altbir, followed by an introduction to the nanoworld by Dr. Alejandra Torres. Participants will then begin the circuit through the six scientific stations. The proposal seeks to go beyond a traditional visit. The goal is for the girls to become actively involved in each experience and to recognize science as a possible space for them, through direct contact with the Center’s researchers and students. The call is aimed at schools. Each school may apply with a group of up to 10 girls, accompanied by two teachers or responsible adults, who must stay with the group throughout the session. When completing the form, each school must select the time slot in which it wishes to participate. Places are limited and submitting the form does not automatically guarantee participation, which will later be confirmed by the CEDENNA team by email. The form also makes it possible to indicate whether any participant requires support or any specific consideration for the proper development of the activity. With this initiative, CEDENNA seeks to create a close and meaningful experience for new generations, promoting scientific curiosity from an early age and showing that nanoscience and nanotechnology can also be part of their interests and their future.
