CEDENNA researcher and Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) academic Dr. Juan Escrig published a new opinion column on Radio Cooperativa titled “The age of whys”, in which he reflects on the value of children’s curiosity as a driver of scientific knowledge and the development of society.
Drawing on everyday scenes from family trips and the questions children ask about the world around them, Dr. Escrig argues that the ability to ask questions without fear is one of the deepest foundations of science. In the text, he maintains that great discoveries begin when someone refuses to accept simple explanations and decides to ask why again.
The column also invites us to reflect on the importance of preserving this inquisitive attitude throughout life and highlights that, at a time when it has never been easier to access answers, it is even more important to learn to ask good questions.
With this publication, Dr. Juan Escrig continues to contribute to public debate through science outreach, bringing science closer to the public and promoting a culture based on curiosity, critical thinking and knowledge.
The column “The age of whys” was published in the Opinion section of Radio Cooperativa and is available to read on the outlet’s website.
