With the awards of the “Quantum for Chile”hackathon, presentations by specialists and a closing marked by the link between science, technology and creativity, the fifth edition of QuSantiagocame to an end. It is the country’s main Quantum Computing School, organized by the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) and the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), sponsored by CoreDevX.

Over three days, the event brought together students, academics and researchers around one of the technologies with the greatest global potential, combining specialized training, collaborative work and practical application.

The centerpiece of the closing was the “Quantum for Chile”hackathon, in which interdisciplinary teams worked on developing solutions to real challenges using quantum computing tools.

First place went to the team made up of Camilo Rojas, Shi Hai Zhang, Bastián Ortiz y Tomás Oliva (UDP).
Second place went to Carlos Fernández, Maximiliano Araya, David Chura y Benjamín Hidalgo.
Third place went to the team made up of Gustavo Fernández y María Barría.

The closing session also included presentations by leading specialists, including Javiera Canales (CoreDevX), Felipe Fanchinni (Universidad Estatal Paulista, Brasil), Cristóbal Lledó (Universidad de Chile), Maritza Ahumada (USACH), Carla Hermann (Universidad de Chile – MIRO) and Felipe Barra (Universidad de Chile), who discussed different applications of quantum computing in areas such as artificial intelligence, complex systems, telecommunications and advanced materials.

Along these lines, the participation of CoreDevX brought technological development into a more applied context, including the presentation of its advances and capabilities in the quantum field.

The closing featured remarks by the dean of the UDP Faculty of Engineering and Sciences, Luciano Ahumada, who emphasized the strategic relevance of these technologies.

“Quantum computing and, in general, quantum technologies are emerging as one of the spaces where the technological frontier will be redefined globally. Not developing capabilities in this field means being left out of one of the most relevant paths of contemporary scientific and technological development,” he said.

As part of the closing, CEDENNA presented the book “Images of the Nanoworld” to the dean of the Faculty and to the CEO of CoreDevX, Javier Urrutia. The publication brings together the work of researchers who have captured nanoparticles through electron microscopy, later transforming these images into artistic compositions, at the crossroads of science and visual creation.

With this fifth edition, QuSantiago has established itself as a key space for training human capital in quantum computing in Chile, strengthening collaboration between universities, links with industry and the development of solutions with impact on the country.
