About 50 teachers from 9 municipalities in the Maule Region took part in an innovative day of workshops, including “Public health and biomedicine: a systemic and technological approach for teachers”, “Geometry teaching for primary school” and “Math games and challenges from age 8 to infinity”.

The activities, organized by the Center for Nanomedicine, Diagnostics and Drug Development (ND3 Center) together with the Faculty of Education Sciences of the Universidad de Talca, were supported by the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, through Dr. Cristian Vilos, head of the center’s Nanobiomedicine Line.

At the end of the workshops, held at the Universidad de Talca, Dr. Vilos said it is very important to organize this type of activity because “we have a social responsibility that goes beyond doing excellent science”, which involves sharing with the community, teachers and students knowledge and areas that are not present in everyday life.

“It is very important that this reaches students and teachers, because otherwise the speed at which frontier knowledge is transmitted to ordinary people is very slow… it can take years,” he noted.

The researcher also referred to the role CEDENNA has played in these activities, specifically thanks to the multidisciplinary and collaborative practice the center has instilled in scientists’ work: “collaborative work is what allows us to do this today, to develop, grow, collaborate and move forward; therefore, CEDENNA plays an important role, since it connects us and drives us to keep collaborating on initiatives of this kind”.

The workshops were held virtually (Zoom) from January 2 to 4. And on January 5, an in-person session took place at the Linares Campus of the Universidad de Talca.
