Free online lecture on speech and language in Parkinson’s

  • Neuroscientist Adolfo M. García will present how linguistic biomarkers and digital tools can contribute to the detection, characterization and monitoring of this disease. The free activity will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m., via Google Meet.

The way a person speaks, builds sentences or uses certain words can provide valuable information about their neurological condition. Advances in cognitive neuroscience and digital technologies are making it possible to study these signals and explore their contribution to research and clinical practice in diseases such as Parkinson’s. To address this field, the Center for the Study of Movement Disorders, CETRAM, and the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, will hold the online lecture “Speech and language in Parkinson’s: digital approaches for detection, phenotyping and monitoring”. The activity will be led by Dr. Adolfo M. García, director of the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at the Universidad de San Andrés, Senior Fellow of the Global Brain Health Institute at the University of California, San Francisco, and associate researcher at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. During the session, the specialist will explain how speech and language analysis can help recognize patterns associated with Parkinson’s, characterize its different manifestations and observe its progression using digital tools. These methods can provide information that complements clinical assessment and open up new possibilities for research and patient monitoring. Adolfo M. García is the creator of TELL, an app for linguistic assessment, and co-founder of Include, a global network dedicated to promoting more inclusive brain assessments. He has more than 200 scientific publications in journals such as Science Advances, Brain and Neurology, and has received awards from the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. The lecture is free and will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Chile time, via Google Meet. Those interested must register in advance.
