The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, took part in the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Industrial Property Court (TDPI), held on January 9 at the Universidad Central, an event that brought together authorities from the Judiciary, the Executive, the innovation system, academics and users of the industrial property system.
As part of the Court’s annual public report, CEDENNA director and 2019 National Prize for Exact Sciences winner Dr. Dora Altbir, was invited as keynote speaker, contributing the perspective of a user of the industrial property system with extensive experience in scientific research, technology transfer and applied innovation.
During her talk, Dr. Altbir discussed the role of industrial property as key infrastructure for development, highlighting the need for a predictable, timely and understandable system for those who generate knowledge and seek to turn it into economic and social impact. In this context, she stressed the importance of the Industrial Property Court as an institution that provides legal certainty and trust, fundamental elements to encourage investment in innovation.
The director of CEDENNA also presented official figures from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which show progress and challenges in gender equity in innovation. According to these data, between 2021 and 2023, 22.7% of inventors in Chile were women, reflecting gradual improvement but also the need to continue strengthening policies and initiatives that promote greater female participation in innovation ecosystems.
“Innovation does not happen spontaneously: it requires knowledge, collaboration, an adequate legal framework and a long-term vision. Along that path, the Industrial Property Court plays a fundamental role so that science and technology can be transformed into development for the country,” said Dr. Altbir.
On the occasion, the director of CEDENNA received a recognition from this court.
