“What CEDENNA does is a tremendous space; it shows the community the development taking place in nanotechnology, which is so important for improving the quality of life, productivity and development of our country,” said the Chair of the Senate’s Future Challenges, Science and Technology Committee, Senator Ximena Rincón, at the end of her tour of the 2023 Nanotechnology Fair organized by the research center.
She also regretted that Chile’s resilience to disasters such as those currently affecting agriculture in the central region, after the storms and floods, has not also moved towards adopting nanotechnology solutions such as those she saw during this visit. She therefore pledged the efforts of the committee she chairs to build the bridge that would make it possible to find timely responses to, or prevent, such situations.
“We have not yet managed to develop permanent public-private and scientific-academic collaboration on a structured, solid basis. And I believe that is the great challenge: building trust and collaboration with a known platform. That is obviously the challenge we must face as a country. Scientists and politicians need to sit down and talk quickly. Other countries are overtaking us and we are missing opportunities,” she concluded.
