*The agreement seeks to generate greater impact in the productive and social world.
CEDENNA and Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) signed an agreement to share the ownership rights of the technology “Nanotechnology structural lightweight concrete composition”, led by Roberto Lavín, CEDENNA researcher, director of the Institute of Basic Sciences and academic at UDP’s Faculty of Engineering and Sciences. The development is already being processed at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI).
This technology was driven by the professor, who worked with UDP researchers Paulo Araos and Alejandro Ángel and an expert group on Magnetic Nanostructures from CEDENNA, thanks to winning the UDP Inventa call in 2020.
Cristóbal Marín, UDP’s Vice Rector for Research and Development, said this is an important milestone for the university. According to him, the agreement “consolidates a series of decisions and advances” the institution has made in matters related to nanoscience and nanotechnology.
“Working together with CEDENNA generates synergy,” he said. It relates to “a strategic goal of the University” regarding the possibility of partnering with other institutions “to generate more science, more technology and greater impact in the productive and social world,” the academic authority explained.
Dr. Dora Altbir Drullinsky, director of CEDENNA and 2019 National Prize in Exact Sciences winner, highlighted the agreement signed by both institutions: “I am convinced this is a high-impact technology (…). We hope this is the first step towards establishing a kind of CEDENNA branch at UDP so that together we can do technology and science,” the researcher stressed.
This agreement reflects effective and real collaboration between both academic institutions. An action intended to last over time that will make it possible to raise new funds to continue developing this type of technology.
Promoting this technology will make it possible to diversify the fields of engineering and architecture, impacting real estate development, the construction industry and the public sector.
