Back to News and Activities

A group of researchers and academics from Universidad de Los Andes (UANDES) took part in a series of talks given by CEDENNA researchers and then visited some of the center’s laboratories to learn about some of the developments carried out there. This activity took place within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed by both institutions to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge and to define some joint initiatives.

At the opening, Dr. Dora Altbir, the center’s director, emphasized the importance of the agreement reached to bring together capabilities in nanoscience and nanotechnology for applications in the biomedical, engineering, environmental, nanosafety and nanomedicine fields.

Dr. Javier Enrione, Director of Research and Doctoral Studies at UANDES, said this visit gives them the opportunity to discuss the possibilities for joint collaboration, taking into account the capabilities of both institutions.

The talks given to the visitors were: “The role of alpha-synuclein in the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s Disease and potential alternatives for Nanomedicine”, by Dr. Pedro Chaná; “Therapeutic strategies based on polymeric nanoparticles”, by Dr. Cristián Vilos; “Impact of Nanotechnology on construction materials”, by Dr. Roberto Lavín; and “Nanotechnology as a tool in the development of functional packaging”, by Dr. Alejandra Torres.

Paulo Díaz, academic at the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad de Los Andes and PhD in Food Science and Technology from Usach, valued this visit and described it as “super interesting” because it revealed “many points of connection between the lines of research we are developing at the UANDES Biomedical Research and Innovation Center and the lines of research being carried out here at CEDENNA. We are therefore convinced that many interesting things can come out of this joint work.”

Prior to this visit, CEDENNA researchers had taken part in a meeting at Universidad de Los Andes, where scientists from both institutions presented what is being developed at CEDENNA, the Biomedical Research and Innovation Center (CiiB), the IMPACT Center of Excellence and the UANDES Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the areas of the Environment, Nanosafety and Nanomedicine.

It was also an opportunity to share CEDENNA’s experience as a basal center marking 13 years since its creation, an experience received with interest by researchers from the IMPACT basal center in its first year of operation.
