University students from different regions of the country who obtained the Explora Unesco quota to study science degrees, and high school students from emblematic Santiago schools, spent a fun and motivating morning at CEDENNA today.

The activity took place as part of a meeting organized by the Ministry of Science through its Explora program, which also included a visit to the Universidad de Santiago Planetarium. The day concluded with the participation of Minister Flavio Salazar and Undersecretary Carolina Gainza, who talked with the students.

At CEDENNA, the high school students attended a talk on nanoscience and nanotechnology given by our director and 2019 National Prize in Exact Sciences winner, Dr. Dora Altbir. Enthusiastic about the topic, they held an active dialogue with the researcher, who guided them in a very didactic way through the nano world and its practical applications in different areas (health, the environment, food, etc.). Also attending were the Director of the Usach Unesco Chair, Patricia Pallavicini; the Head of the Science and Society Division of the Ministry of Science, Sonia Pérez; and the Executive Director of Fundación Planetario, Jacqueline Morey, among other authorities.

The university students visited some of the center’s laboratories, where they were welcomed by researchers who, besides explaining what was done in each unit, invited them to experience science through microscopes, sensor production, measuring instruments, etc. Time flew by and they said goodbye to CEDENNA, hoping to return for another visit to keep learning about nanoscience and nanotechnology.
