CEDENNA Seminar Series: Nobel Prizes 2023

Last Thursday, November 30, in the Rector Eduardo Morales Santos Auditorium, an interesting seminar was held on the Nobel Prize in Physics: "Experimental methods that generate attosecond light pulses for the study of electronic dynamics in matter" dictated by the researcher of the Department of Physics of the University of Santiago, Dr. Ignacio Olivares.

 

The day included the participation of researchers and students from the center, who actively participated with questions and opinions at the end of the seminar.

 

CEDENNA brings nanotechnology to the CCHC Productivity Week

With nanotechnological concrete and measurement of risks associated with particulate materials in suspension in construction environments, the stand of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, aroused the interest of those attending the last day of the third version of Productivity Week, organized by the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC), in alliance with the National Research and Development Agency (ANID).

CEDENNA 2024 Calendar: Science and Art

As is tradition, the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has prepared the CEDENNA 2024 Calendar, highlighting the images created by our researchers, students and technological developers who participated in the annual contest organized by CEDENNA. With the aim of educating and increasing the visibility of scientific work in an entertaining way, mixing science and art, these calendars will be distributed in various educational establishments throughout the country.

QuSantiago had prominent international experts in its 2024 version

Presenting the recent progress in key areas such as Quantum Computing, Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum Machines, as well as disseminating and deepening the emerging lines of research related to these technologies, were some of the objectives of the second version of “QuSantiago” that was held for three days (January 2, 3 and 4) at the USACH Faculty of Science) in collaboration with the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA.

Last CEDENNA Seminar 2023: Nobel Prize in Medicine 2023

Within the CEDENNA Seminar Cycle Framework, the prominent CBA researcher from the Department of Biology Dr. Claudio Acuña offered a dynamic and interesting talk about the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine obtained by the American immunologist Dr. Drew Weissman and the Hungarian Biochemist, Dr. Katalin Karikó.

They were awarded this recognition for their discoveries on nucleotide base modifications that allowed the development of effective mRNA (Messenger Ribonucleic Acid) vaccines against Covid-19.

Teachers from the VII Region received knowledge in biomedicine and public health

Around 50 teachers from 9 communes of the Maule Region participated in an innovative day of workshops, including “Public health and biomedicine: a systemic and technological approach for teachers”, “Geometry teaching for basic cycle” and “Games and challenges in Mathematics from 8 years to infinity.”

CEDENNA participated in the VII National Nanotechnology Congress

The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, sponsored and participated with a group of its researchers in the VII National Congress of Nanotechnology CNN7 that was held at the Gran Hotel Pucón - Enjoy in the city of Pucón, between November 12 and 15.

In this important scientific event, plenaries and talks were held by prominent national and foreign researchers, which covered different topics, as well as interesting poster sessions.

Visit German School of Providencia

Today, Tuesday, November 14, it was the turn of the last educational establishment to tour the CEDENNA Laboratories. The 3rd year students of the German School of Providencia had an unforgettable experience, as they were able to learn a little more about the nano world. The activity began with an introductory talk given by the CEDENNA researcher Dr. Fabian Araneda and then, as if this were not enough, the students toured the Nanosafety, Packaging, Plant Biotechnology, Electron Microscopy and Technology Transfer laboratories, in order to bring the nanoscience with students.

Last Thursday, October 26, in the Auditorium of the Eduardo Morales Santos Research Centers Building (REMS), Dr. Verónica Paredes, researcher of the CEDENNA Nanostructures Chemistry Line and professor at the Andrés Bello University, offered an interesting talk about "Coordination Polymers: an adaptable chemical platform to obtain different properties."

Intense agenda of activities by Dr. José Marco Sanz at CEDENNA

Dr. José Marco Sanz, belonging to the Blas Cabrera Institute of Physical Chemistry (IFQ) in Madrid, Spain, was recently at CEDENNA developing a series of activities and meetings, in the context of an international collaboration for the project FONDECYT 1201249 (Electronic properties of coordination compounds based on functionalized mixed-valence polyoxometalates coordinated to lanthanide ions), invited by Dr. Diego Venegas Yazigi, who leads the center's Nanostructures Chemistry Line.
