Until Friday, November 3, the exhibition "Images of the Nanoworld" will remain on display at the La Tirana Campus of the University of Tarapacá, a traveling exhibition that hopes to tour a large part of the country, bringing nanoscience and nanotechnology to children, young people and adults.

The exhibition brings together images of nanoparticles captured through electron microscopy by researchers from the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), who worked on them in an artistic way, creating colorful works that participated in the internal competition that the center organizes every year to bring them to life. to the annual calendar that is distributed in educational establishments in different regions.

The General Director of Headquarters, Dr. Yasna Godoy Henríquez, was present at the inauguration, who valued this type of initiatives that motivate knowledge and approach to science in a playful and artistic way.

Meanwhile, Dr. Olga Penagos provided some details of the exhibition, highlighting that each image is accompanied by a scientific description that shows what is really behind each photograph and demonstrating the wonder that we can find in this invisible world, which through of electron microscopy shows us its secrets and marvels us.

Thus, for example, a spring butterfly flying among pollen grains turns out to be a porous hydrogel containing cellulose nanofibrils used for the remediation of colored water. A beautiful pink jellyfish among apparent underwater rocks is not such. It is titanium dioxide (TiO2) which in its most common phase is known as rutile, with interesting optical properties described for centuries.

Another photograph shows an aggregate of tubes of vanadium oxides in different oxidations (V(5+) and V(4+)). The resemblance to a coral is striking.

The exhibition can be visited for free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the auditorium hall of the La Tirana campus.
