Nanotechnology Innovation for the Food Industry on Canal 24 Horas and TVN

Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) was featured on the program TVN’s Reporte Agrícola, which highlighted innovative research that seeks to extend the shelf life of food through the use of nanotechnology in packaging.

The study, carried out by a team of researchers from CEDENNA and Laben Chile, develops new packaging materials with nanoparticles, which prevent the appearance of fungi such as Botrytis cinerea (gray mold), responsible for significant losses in agricultural production, especially in fruits such as strawberries.

To validate their effectiveness, they carry out comparative studies with traditional packaging, measuring color, texture and oxidation in foods such as salmon.
In the report, CEDENNA Alternate Director Dr. María José Galotto (who is also a researcher at Laben Chile) highlights that these technologies are designed to be easily adopted by industry without the need to modify production processes. Their impact on the Chilean export sector makes it possible to send top-quality products to international markets.

In addition, this innovation improves food safety, ensuring that food reaches consumers in better condition, reducing waste and benefiting regions with difficult access.
