The traveling exhibition “Images of the Nanoworld”, promoted by the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), was highlighted by the media outlet Cooperativa Ciencia for its approach of bringing science and technology closer to school communities and territories far from major urban centers.
The exhibition brings together a selection of images obtained by CEDENNA researchers using electron microscopy techniques, which were later worked on artistically to reveal, in an attractive and approachable way, the shapes, structures and materials that exist at the nanoscale.
The images are part of CEDENNA’s internal scientific image contest, an initiative that invites the research community to transform records obtained in the laboratory into pieces that communicate science from a visual and creative perspective.
Science that reaches the territories
The tour of “Images of the Nanoworld” began at San Antonio de Pocoihuén Alto School, in the Los Lagos Region, and will travel to different rural schools in southern Chile.
Each session includes an introductory presentation on nanoscience and nanotechnology, a guided tour of the exhibition and educational activities in which students can draw on and color reproductions of the scientific images, creating a link between science, art and learning.
In this way, CEDENNA seeks to make the nanoworld no longer something distant or hard to imagine, but a concrete, visual and entertaining experience for new generations.
