Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) researcher Dr. Patricia Díaz, together with Dr. Osvaldo Berger, academic at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH), were featured by Cooperativa Ciencia for their work on developing an innovative cell culture aimed at regenerating the cornea.
This research addresses limbal insufficiency, a severe eye condition that currently has no curative treatment and can lead to blindness. The scientific advance offers concrete hope for patients whose quality of life is currently limited, by projecting a therapeutic alternative capable of restoring the ocular surface and partially or fully recovering vision.
The project is funded by CORFO, through its Crea y Valida instrument, and involves the participation of Clínica Pasteur and the Fundación Córnea Chile. This coordination reinforces the direct link between frontier research, the health system and people, making it possible to move from the laboratory to solutions with real impact on patients’ lives.
