In the context of a new critical air pollution episode in the Metropolitan Region, the researcher at Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) and full professor at the Department of Physics of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa, published an opinion column in Cooperativa, reflects on air quality not only as an environmental emergency, but also as a health, scientific and generational challenge.
In his analysis, the researcher argues for the need to address air pollution from a comprehensive perspective, considering its effects on public health, scientific development and collective responsibility. He also warns about the tendency to normalize one of the most significant health threats of our time, even though millions of people are exposed to its consequences every day.
“Air pollution is one of the few serious health threats we have learned to normalize. The question is no longer just how to reduce emissions, but what air we are leaving to the next generations,” says Dr. Escrig in his publication.
