After 15 years of widely recognized academic, scientific and technological successes, the CEDENNA Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Center is preparing to face its next challenge: offering the country a new work project that, if approved by the authorities, will mean at least another 10 years of development for the benefit of industry and cutting-edge scientific research in Chile.

This was stated by Dora Altbir, 2019 National Prize for Exact Sciences and Founder of the CEDENNA Center, recently elected by its members as Director of the new project that the institution will present to the National Research and Development Agency, ANID.

“During these years we published almost 1,600 articles, presented more than 60 patent applications and opened space for highly demanding researchers who today contribute to different companies and universities,” Altbir stressed, also thanking the work of the administrative team that supported all these successes and the collaboration of the team headed by Dr. Juan Escrig and Dr. María José Galotto who led it in the transition stage

Dr. Escrig himself listed some achievements achieved by the members of CEDENNA only in this last period, from achieving continuity of financing, to the communication efforts that managed to position nanoscience and nanotechnology in the most diverse media.

He mentioned milestones such as the Alumni Workshop, the national tour of the Images of the Nanoworld exhibition, the internal update seminars, participation in “Futuristas” (an initiative organized by Congreso Futuro), the Pronano workshops for teachers from all over the country, the II QuSantiago 2024 version, and the Nanotechnology Fair for the Agricultural Sector, plus the constant visits from schools and the growth of Cedenna on social networks,

For all these efforts, the ANID authorized the extension of the project until August 10, 2024 since, in the words of the CTCI Minister, Aisén Etcheverry, “CEDENNA is an example of a scientific drive for productive development.”

Now the Center is preparing to face a new stage and, according to the decision of its members, as of August 10, Dr. Dora Altbir will lead the application for a new baseline project that, if approved by ANID, will still CEDENNA's achievements more stable over time by granting it financing for another 10 years.
