Talk on Patent Law for Scientists and Researchers in the CEDENNA Seminar Series

Within the framework of the CEDENNA Seminar Series, the prominent lawyer Fernando Fernández offered an interesting talk on Patent Law, aimed especially at scientists and researchers. The event took place on Thursday, August 31 and focused on providing a comprehensive understanding of patenting processes and their legal implications.

During the presentation, the expert thoroughly examined the fundamental elements surrounding the patentability of an invention, clarifying essential concepts in the matter. Topics addressed include the definition of a patent for an invention, its structure, its scope of protection, and the requirements necessary for an invention to be eligible for patenting.

The participants valued the shared knowledge, highlighting the usefulness it offers in the process of patenting their own scientific developments. Fernández's presentation provided a solid foundation for understanding the intricate world of patents, allowing attendees to integrate tools that they can use in their efforts to protect their innovations.

In addition to the technical aspects, Fernández also addressed basic procedural aspects related to the patenting process, as well as the legal status of the inventor who works in collaboration with the University of Santiago (Usach). To conclude, the lawyer offered a brief but informative introduction to the legal issues linked to technology transfer.

Fernando Fernández has a degree in Law and Social Sciences from the Diego Portales University. He has a Master's Degree in Law from the University of Chicago and a Master's Degree in Innovation, Technology and Law from the University of Edinburgh. He has been Legal Advisor to the Modernization and Digital Government Unit of the State and researcher at the Center for Computer Law Studies of the University of Chile. He is currently a professor of Contract Law at the Diego Portales University and has been a postgraduate professor at the University of Chile.
