The National Research and Development Agency (ANID) recently published a note highlighting the FONDEF project that seeks to promote the development of space technology in Chile, and in which the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) actively participates.
This collaborative project aims to design functional coatings for nanosatellites, capable of withstanding the complex conditions of the space environment. The initiative brings together Chilean universities, research centers, the Chilean Air Force, and an international company in a joint effort to advance toward greater national technological autonomy in the aerospace sector.
Dr. Juan Escrig, a researcher at CEDENNA and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Santiago, Chile, serves as the project's deputy director. In Dr. Escrig's words:
“This project represents a concrete example of how Chilean science can be effectively articulated around strategic challenges for the country.”
CEDENNA's participation in this initiative reaffirms its commitment to applied research and the development of high-performance nanostructured materials, with applications in cutting-edge technological sectors.
ANID's recognition of this project highlights the importance of collaboration between academia, the government, and industry in advancing towards a Chile with greater scientific and technological capabilities..
