The Chemistry and Environment Laboratory of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) received a visit from Dr. Pablo Albores, PhD in Chemistry and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in an instance aimed at strengthening scientific collaboration between Chile and Argentina in the field of materials and molecular magnetism.

During his stay, the Argentine academic toured the facilities of the laboratory led by Dr. Diego Venegas Yazigi, and the magnetism laboratory led by Dr. Verónica Paredes García, with whom he has maintained academic ties for several years through international scientific congresses and meetings.

“We are here to discuss research projects and see how we can enhance the capabilities of each group. It is very important to create alliances between sister countries to optimize resources, boost research, and raise the scientific level to compete with centers in more developed countries,” said Dr. Albores.

The researcher explained that his work focuses on basic science, particularly the development of molecular materials with advanced magnetic properties. Among his main lines of research, he highlights the study of molecular magnets, materials that could become an alternative for storing and manipulating information in future technologies.

“We work on challenges within the area of molecular magnetism, seeking to develop materials that can eventually be used in information storage devices. In that context, the academic highlighted the level of modernization and equipment at CEDENNA.

“I was very surprised. The facilities are very new, very well equipped, and the infrastructure is spectacular. I am truly impressed with CEDENNA,” he commented.

He also compared the reality of Argentine research centers with the experience observed at CEDENNA, emphasizing the importance of advancing in processes of technological updating and institutional strengthening.

Finally, Dr. Albores emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding regional scientific collaborations. “The idea is to continue strengthening ties, reinforcing the alliance between laboratories, and continuing to work together between Chile and Argentina,” the Argentine researcher concluded.
