Presenting the recent progress in key areas such as Quantum Computing, Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum Machines, as well as disseminating and deepening the emerging lines of research related to these technologies, were some of the objectives of the second version of “QuSantiago” that was held for three days (January 2, 3 and 4) at the USACH Faculty of Science) in collaboration with the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA.
The activity included the participation of prominent scientists from leading companies in quantum technologies, including Dr. Enrique Solano from Kipu-Quantum, Dr. Antonio Mezzacappo from IBM and Dr. Hao Tang from TuringQ and the Chinese University of Jiaotong, one of the most important researchers in the area of quantum technologies in Asia and the world.
CEDENNA was also present through its researchers, including Drs. Juan Carlos Retamal, Guillermo Romero and Francisco Albarrán. On Friday, January 5, the Workshop “Workshop On Quantum Computing” was held, which included talks by researchers from different universities presenting their advances in quantum physics.
Dr. Romero, who is also Vice Dean of the USACH Faculty of Science, commented on the importance it had for him, personally, to participate in this event: “for me it is relevant to have participated in this activity because we want to communicate what we do to undergraduate and graduate students. Today, in particular, we have brought excellent researchers from all over the country and with this, we try to create synergy.”
But, at the same time, he highlighted how relevant it is for CEDENNA to participate in this type of activities, since "it allows people to publicize what is really done." He added that, although CEDENNA is “known from the point of view of classical magnetism, it also has the branch of the quantum part.
Meanwhile, Dr. Albarrán, a member of the organizing committee, maintained that they imposed “the challenge of approaching quantum technologies from an applied perspective, so that students who want to enter this area have a much clearer picture from the point of view of from the point of view of academia and industry. For this reason, in this version we try to include the views of global experts".
