CEDENNA participates in a talk on the participation of Women in Science at the Central Station

  • Girls and adolescents from different schools in the commune participated in the activity carried out in the Municipality of Estación Central.

In the Town Hall of the Municipality of Estación Central, the talk “Participation of Women in Science from an Academic and Territorial View” was held, which was attended by the mayor of this commune, Felipe Muñoz; the executive director of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa; students, teachers from different educational establishments, including the Colegio República de Austria, Colegio República de Francia, Colegio Arturo Alessandri, Colegio Pacto Andino, Escuela Falabella and Escuela Silvia Salas.

The activity began with dynamics by “Cuenta Usach”, a Comprehensive Training Program in the Art of Oral Narration. Then, the professional from the Axis of Leadership and Female Participation of the Faculty of Science of the University of Santiago de Chile, Natalia Aguayo, gave a talk accompanied by entertaining activities around How do we imagine a person who does science? On the occasion, the students with their cell phones were able to interact with different thoughts, which were shared with the entire audience.

“We are very happy with this activity organized by CEDENNA and the Universidad Santiago de Chile. Together with the Municipal team, it mainly allowed us to reflect and debate the role of women within science, which for us is extremely important. It is something that drives us and commits us to continue advancing in these matters,” said Mayor Felipe Muñoz.

Meanwhile, the executive director of CEDENNA and dean of the Usach Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Juan Escrig, explained to girls and adolescents what nanoscience and nanotechnology are, highlighting at the same time the importance of women in science. .

“The idea of ​​this activity was to empower girls from different schools in Estación Central with top-level science, like that carried out within CEDENNA,” commented Dr. Escrig, who also took advantage of this opportunity to open the doors of the Center for students who want to visit it, in order to “introduce them to the impressive world of nanoscience and nanotechnology.”
