“Nanotechnology made in Chile” is the name of the talk given by the executive director of the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Dr. Juan Escrig Murúa, to students and academics from the University of Tarapacá (Arica), within the framework of his visit to the campus for the inauguration of the exhibition “Images of the Nanoworld” carried out by our research center and which the northern university house will host until October 15.

The clinical potential of his research on “Paralyzing shellfish toxins resulting from harmful algal blooms (red tide)” was addressed by Dr. Nelson Lagos in the talk he offered to researchers, academics and students in the REMS Research Centers Building Auditorium, from the University of Santiago.

With the objective of providing fundamentals of numerical simulations, developing skills in the use of molecular dynamics software and applying different techniques in practical problems at a basic and advanced level in science and engineering, on October 24 and 25 the “Workshop of Molecular Dynamics: Bringing Theory to Experiment”,

On Tuesday, September 5, 43 students from 1st to 4th grade from the San Pedro Poveda School in Maipú visited us.

After a welcome and introductory talk about the nano world, given by Dr. Mauricio Escudey, leader of CEDENNA's Nanosafety Line, the students took a tour of different laboratories at the center, including Nanomedicine, Electronic Microscopy, Nanomagnetism , Packaging, Nanosafety and Plant Biotechnology.

Within the framework of the CEDENNA Seminar Series, the prominent lawyer Fernando Fernández offered an interesting talk on Patent Law, aimed especially at scientists and researchers. The event took place on Thursday, August 31 and focused on providing a comprehensive understanding of patenting processes and their legal implications.

At the request of some researchers who were not able to finish their work, the closing of the "CEDENNA 2023 Images" Contest is extended until Friday, September 29 (5:00 p.m.).

The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, will represent Chile in an interlaboratory test to be carried out among the OECD countries to determine the "Solubility and dissolution rate of nanomaterials". Last July, the Nanosafety Unit participated in a first informative meeting, in which it was indicated that prior to the development of this test, a training day must be completed that will take place in September in Schmallenberg (Germany).

Preparation of nanoparticles of different materials and sizes; electron microscopy SEM and TEM; soil analysis; 3D prototyping; improvement in the properties of recyclable materials and determination of toxicological properties of nanomaterials are some of the services that the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, CEDENNA, offers the country and its companies.
