CEDENNA Launches a New Stage with an Interuniversity Model at the Service of the Country

With a gathering that brought together researchers, as well as technical and administrative teams, the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) officially launched a new stage as an Applied Research Center, following its success in securing the national ANID competition.
This new cycle positions the Center toward strengthening research with national impact, while preserving its multidisciplinary and interuniversity identity. Today, CEDENNA brings together academics from 18 universities across Chile.

CEDENNA opens a Special Summer Course in Nanoscience Applied to Health in a 100% flexible format

The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) announced the opening of its 2026 Special Summer Course for healthcare professionals. This fully flexible and asynchronous course is designed especially for those with greater availability during January and February.

Scientist trained at CEDENNA awarded the For Women in Science 2025 prize

Researcher Fiorella Roco, who began her scientific career at the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), was awarded the 2025 For Women in Science Chile Prize in the Doctoral category. This award, granted by the L’Oréal Group in conjunction with the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, with support from ANID and the European Southern Observatory (ESO), recognizes women who make significant contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the country.

SOCHEF and CEDENNA Form Alliance to Promote Nanoscience Education in Chile

  • The agreement aims to strengthen teacher training and bring nanotechnology into high school classrooms.

    The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Foundation (CEDENNA) and the Chilean Society for Physics Education (SOCHEF) have signed a memorandum of understanding, marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration to promote the teaching of nanoscience and nanotechnology in Chile’s school system.

International Visit: Dr. Fidel Castro and ELAM at CEDENNA

CEDENNA received a visit from Dr. Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, Professor of Nuclear Physics at the University of Havana and member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, who, as part of an international tour, requested to visit the center's laboratories together with Dr. Amaya Candia, who heads the International Medical Society of graduates from ELAM (Latin American School of Medicine), the international public university created by the Cuban government that trains general physicians for more than 120 countries.

CEDENNA Researcher Presents at Two Symposia at the IMRC 2025 International Materials Science Congress

Dr. Juan Escrig, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Santiago and researcher at the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA), was invited to deliver two talks at the 33rd International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) 2025, one of the most prestigious scientific events in the field of materials science, held recently in Cancún, Mexico.

The nanoworld arrived at the Plaza de Armas in Santiago

As part of a heritage event organized jointly with the Municipality of Santiago, CEDENNA presented its traveling exhibition "Images of the Nanoworld" in the Plaza de Armas, bringing science and art closer to the community in the heart of the city.

The exhibition brought together 12 scientific images artistically modified by CEDENNA researchers, allowing attendees to discover what the world looks like on a nanometric scale, in an experience that unites creativity and scientific knowledge.

Within the framework of the Heritage Day for Girls, Boys and Adolescents, organized by the Municipality of Santiago, the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) will present its traveling exhibition “Images of the Nanoworld”, a unique display that reveals the invisible wonders of matter at the nanometric scale. The National Prize for Exact Sciences, Dora Altbir, and the Director of the CEDENNA Program Center, Juliano Casagrande, will participate and engage in conversation with the public.

Regional Councilors from Tarapacá Visit CEDENNA and Highlight the Potential for Collaboration in Science and Innovation

  • The delegation toured laboratories in plant nanobiotechnology, nanobiomedicine, nanosafety, and nano-structured chemistry, showing particular interest in projects for the recovery of native species and medical applications of nanotechnology.

Brazilian physicist José d’Albuquerque e Castro, member of the CEDENNA International Advisory Committee, has passed away.

It is with deep regret that the Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) announces the passing of José d’Albuquerque e Castro (1952–2025), a prominent Brazilian physicist and member of our International Advisory Committee, who passed away on August 12, 2025.
